Jonathan Crowhurst

Jonathan Crowhurst is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading wind ensemble directors. 

From 2010-2019, Jonathan was Music Director of Maidstone Wind Symphony. During his tenure, Jonathan’s charismatic leadership led to the orchestras reputation for exciting and innovative programming, culminating in two acclaimed discs (Roar! The Wind Band Music of Andy Scott and Slide Projections with trombonist Brett Baker) and many notable and highly regarded performances. 

Jonathan is a champion of contemporary music, and has premiered or commissioned works by composers including, Jan Sandström, Frank Ticheli, Andy Scott, Nigel Clarke, Peter Graham, Peter Meechan, Johan de Meij, Simon Dobson, and Jeff Tyzik. He has also collaborated with a host of world-class musicians, including flautist Andy Findon, tuba sensation Les Neish and euphonium virtuosos Steven Mead, David Thornton, Gary Curtin and Glenn Van Looy.

Jonathan has shown enduring commitment to music education through masterclasses and workshops for local amateur musicians and talented young instrumentalists looking to forge professional careers. He founded the National Concert Band Symposium in 2014, and is currently the founder director of the Festival of Wind and Brass in Kent. Jonathan regular guest conducts and adjudicates, and is currently the Head of Music at Weald of Kent Grammar School.
